1. Update: Reports on feedback from the Summit were very positive from all accounts. Those in attendance have expressed their appreciation for the valuable opportunity to network and continue to communicate with colleagues throughout the County on after school issues. They have passed their comments on to their supervisors and several additional names have been added to our contact list as a result.
Again, special special thanks to all committee members for helping make this “movement” so successful!
2. Funding: Laurel Dahl provided a preliminary financial support. Sponsorships totaled $5700, registrations $5000 for a total revenue amount of $10,700. Expenses for both the breakfast and the full day summit totaled $9,605.80. Again, thanks to all our sponsors but especially the Steering Committee members who gave early and continuous support through donations and in-kind contributions.
Sponsorships are still needed. Patti Leppala suggested our coalition be involved in the Lake County Community Development Block Grant process on May 26th.
3. Governor’s Summit: Jennifer Becker Mouchine reported on the Illinois Business to Business Summit being planned by the Governor’s office with funding from the National Governor’s Association. The summit is planned for August with a morning session for key executives followed by an afternoon session of human resource personnel. The Northern Illinois Collaborative (NIC) model will be suggested for other regional networks.
Kathy Ryg attended the introductory meeting with business leaders and spoke to the efforts in Lake County and learned from business leaders how to engage them in this issue.
4. Summit Report: The notes have been entered and emailed to Rep. Ryg’s office. Thanks to the Gurnee Park District staff for all their data entry and organizing of the notes. An executive summary will be drafted by Rep. Ryg’s office for review by the entire Steering Committee. Information on all the subcommittee meetings – topic, time and place will be emailed to all attendees.
The final report will be provided to all attendees of both events
5. Next Steps: A press conference is tentatively set for Monday, May 24th to release the Summit Report and ongoing efforts. Additional details will be worked out at the next meeting as we review the draft report. Suggestions were to contact editors of local papers, highlight report findings, define infrastructure and leadership team and tie to other efforts – Team Lake County, Business Summit, etc.
