Organization Structure: Priority issue subcommittee chairs attended the meeting and offered updates on their progress and suggestions of how to improve communication among members.  Chairs noted that they would appreciate some more direction from the steering committee about what’s expected of them and how to proceed.  Members agreed to expand the steering committee to include subcommittee chairs; this group will be the Leadership Team.

Members also agreed to form a group that will create a strategic plan for the After School Summit; it will consider the Summit’s goals, structure, and future development.  Judy Fried will chair the Strategic Planning group; the first meeting will be July 19th.  Members of the Strategic Planning group include: Liz Nelson, Ann Buck, Connie Willegal, Stacey Robinson, and Mary Penich.

Members agreed that an assessment of existing after-school programs and best practices, the resources available to them, and the need for programs in individual communities should be performed.  Patti Leppala will chair the Assessment group; members include Barbara Daudelin, Carol Bercos, JoAnn Carpenter, Wallace Brandies, and Melissa Ray-Schaefer.

Funding: Patti Leppala attended the Lake County Community Development Committee meeting and discussed the need for after-school programs and the Summit’s work.  RFPs for block grants come out in August.

United Way Presentation: United Way of Lake County has offered to present their Community Needs Assessment to Summit members; additional interested groups will also be invited.

Website: Creating a separate website for the Summit would involve a monthly cost; a website associated with Mundelein (the site address would be www.mundelein.org/afterschool, for example) would be free.  Members will have to decide whether having a completely independent website is worth the additional expense.

Next Meeting:  July 21 and July 22 have been suggested as possible next meeting dates.  The meeting would be at 8:30 a.m. at the Mundelein Police Department on either date.  Please email Kelley at ktalbot28@hotmail.com to let her know which date works better for you.
