The Special Needs Committee collaboratively agreed that their first goal would be to identify the training needs in Lake County for all those who provide after school (and out-of-school) programming for youth with special needs. We decided to hold a conference which will include workshops on the top training needs identified by schools, faith-based groups, park districts, special-rec associations, libraries, social-service agencies, police departments, etc.
A survey has been developed that will be mailed out asking individuals to identify their training needs/requests. The survey results will be tabulated and reviewed, and will guide us as we develop the conference, as well as future workshops.
Progress to date:
· a survey has been developed and mailing lists are being collected
· volunteers are starting to be identified for mailing
· trainers are starting to be identified
· SEDOL has agreed to “take the lead” on the mailing and collection of surveys
Needs:
· funding for expenses: postage and paper
o some of the costs (paper) may be donated by SEDOL, but the postage costs will not be able to be absorbed by the co-op
· location for conference with breakout rooms available
Target Dates:
· we would like to get this survey out in the mail by the end of September
· planning for January conference
