Debra Trude-Suter and JoAnn Carpenter reported to the Leadership Team that they have applied for a Lead Agency grant to support the National & Global Youth Service Day, April 21 –23, 2006. They will be organizing a countywide youth planning committee to provide a comprehensive outreach effort to community agencies and public schools to promote service learning through special projects. This project supports youth on a life long path of civic engagement and educates the public, media and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders. This $2000 grant is sponsored by State Farm Companies Foundation and will support getting the word out to local agencies and schools to plan activities that can raise awareness of the strength in our youth. The Leadership Team suggested that once the status of the grant was determined, a subcommittee would be formed.
