After-School Coalition Strategic Plan Outline

Vision

All Lake County youth will have access to quality after-school and youth development programs in Lake County based on each community’s needs.

 

Mission

The Lake County After-School Coalition will advocate and support the development and continuation of effective after-school programs, based on each individual community’s needs that will empower all Lake County youth to learn and thrive.

 

Goal 1

Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to establish community needs, gaps, and current after-school programs

 

Objectives

  1. Identify current available after-school and out of school programs in Lake County
  2. Design and conduct a comprehensive survey to identify countywide needs.  Target audience should include: schools, recreation agencies, teen centers, youth organizations, village halls, townships, libraries, faith-based organizations, parents, youth and law enforcement
  3. Analyze results of comprehensive survey including gaps and duplication in programming
  4. Disseminate findings to key stakeholders

 

 

Goal 2

Formalize a permanent organizational structure for the Coalition
 

Objectives

  1. Develop Bylaws for the Coalition

Bylaws should include:

    1. Committee structure
    2. Membership requirements
    3. Meetings’ frequency
    4. Officers/Executive Committee
  1. Secure funding which will enable administrative support for the Coalition and its mission

 

Goal 3

Continue Coalition building and partnering to maximize support and resources, including funding for after-school programs, which ensure a community wide commitment to youth development

 

Objectives

A.      Maintain communication with Summit Stakeholders

B.     Identify and recruit members for the Coalition

C.     Develop a network for program providers

D.     Develop promotional strategy for after-school programs

E.     Maximize use of website which should include current information on funding, available resources; and be used as a clearinghouse of information on after-school/out of school programs in Lake County
 

Goal 4

Facilitate a process to ensure that participants are safe

 

Objectives

  1. Develop guidelines for selection, development, and maintenance of safe environment for program
  2. Develop guidelines for safe and reliable transportation of participants to and from program and program activities
  3. Develop guidelines for managerial/discipline expectation and practices
  4. Develop guidelines for ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding safe practices
     

Goal 5

Facilitate a process to develop and implement effective, engaging, and inclusive after-school programs

 

Objectives

A.      Facilitate a process for identifying effective programs that address academic, social, and emotional growth. 

B.     Develop and maintain a comprehensive listing of current programs and program models.

C.     Guide in the establishment of relevant programming including recreational programming.

D.     Facilitate a process and identify participant populations and their particular needs.  (Need to discuss special needs)

E.     Develop guidelines for ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding all facets of programming

F.      Develop guidelines for a process for ongoing parental involvement and engagement

 

Goal 6

Facilitate a process for ongoing assessment and evaluation

 

Objectives

  1. Provide guidance in the assessment of program goals and objectives
  2. Provide guidance in the development of outcome measurement tools/instruments
  3. Develop and maintain a comprehensive listing of current program outcomes
