Announcements:

Kathy Ryg reported that in November, Loomis Mayfield arranged a meeting with Dept. of Human Services Secretary Dr. Carol Adams and staff to discuss budget issues on Teen REACH from FY05 and FY06, future administration plans and vision for Teen REACH, and After School Programming and provider concerns on mandates and changes in the Teen REACH Program.    During session a letter to the Governor was passed around and 115 members signed supporting more resources for after school programs.   Chuck Balling represented the Lake County After School Coalition and reported Dr. Adams agreed to make after-school programs a priority as they seek grant funding.

Alex Marx reported the Mundelein After School Coalition dance held at Mundelein High School in December was a huge success.  The kids from the middle schools in Mundelein met on a regular basis and put the event together.  The Mundelein After School Coalition held the dance to provide a safe and healthy after school activity for the students.   Alex said that they are now working on their next step.

David Husemoller reported that panelists from the Lake County Community Development Commission (CDC) met last week to review 17 applications for CDBG funding of Self-Sufficiency activities for FY 05.  Two of these applications could be considered After School programs.  Panel recommendations will be presented to the CDC Executive Committee which will make the decisions regarding funding on Wednesday Dec. 15.  The full CDC will review and approve these decisions on January 21, 2005

Kathy Ryg reported that she had recently attended a legislative summit held by the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Children.   A consensus agenda to address childhood obesity is being prepared.  This is another network to include with the Lake County After School Coalition.

Chuck Balling reported that the Gurnee Park District would be expanding their facility space to provide for more programming in their community including before and after school programming.   The After School Coalition Team Leadership agreed to send a

letter of endorsement to the Gurnee Park District President and Board of Commissioners.

Strategic Planning Committee:  Judy Fried, Mary Penich, Shana Magidovitch, and Anne Buck

This is a work in progress and all feedback is appreciated.  One suggestion was to keep the By-Laws as simple as possible.  A copy of the By-Laws presented at this meeting has been attached. The committee would appreciate any feedback by January 12th.  Please send your feedback to mpenich@lake.k12.il.us    An updated copy of the By-Laws will be presented at the next ASC Leadership Team meeting on Friday, January 21st.
