Strategic Plan
Vision
All Lake County youth will have access to quality after school and youth
development programs in Lake County based on each community’s needs.
Mission
The Lake County After School Coalition will advocate and support the development
and continuation of effective after school programs, based on each individual
community’s needs that will empower all Lake County youth to learn and thrive.
Goal 1
Conduct an ongoing comprehensive needs assessment to establish community needs,
gaps, and current after school programs
Objectives
A. Periodically update a listing of available after school and out-of-school
programs in Lake County
B. Support on an ongoing basis of communication between county entities to
identify countywide youth programming needs. Target audience should include:
schools, recreation agencies, teen centers, youth organizations, village halls,
townships, libraries, faith-based organizations, parents, youth, and law
enforcement
C. Compile results of this comprehensive assessment including gaps and
duplication in programming
D. Disseminate findings to key stakeholders
Goal 2
Evaluate the formalized organizational structure of the Coalition on an ongoing
basis (at least annually)
Objectives
A. Annually review the Bylaws of the Coalition
B. Give consideration to securing funding which will enable programmatic and
administrative support for the Coalition and its mission
Goal 3
Continue Coalition building and partnering to maximize support and resources for
after school programs, which ensure a community wide commitment to youth
development
Objectives
A. Maintain communication with key stakeholders on an ongoing basis
B. Identify and recruit members for the Coalition on an ongoing basis
C. Support a communication network for program providers
D. Maximize use of the Coalition website which should include current
information regarding Coalition activities, funding, available resources; and
pertinent information about after school and out-of-school programs in Lake
County
Goal 4
Facilitate discussion regarding the safety of program participants
Objectives
A. Access community resources and conduct presentations regarding safety issues
B. Distribute pertinent information via the website or email
Goal 5
Facilitate discussion regarding the development and implementation of effective,
engaging, and inclusive after school programs
Objectives
A. Showcase information at the annual meeting
B. Provide the membership the opportunity to share information regarding programs at leadership and membership gatherings
C. Access information on a county, regional, and statewide basis regarding various aspects of after school and/or out-of-school programming.
Goal 6
Facilitate ongoing discussion among program providers
Objectives
A. Provide networking opportunities through the annual meeting and other
Coalition gatherings.
B. Provide a venue through the Coalition website for program providers to
showcase their after school and/or out-of-school offerings
